Mrs. Guertin has over 20 years experience in the Hillsborough County School System, both as an administrator and teacher. Mrs. Guertin came to Lutz Preparatory from one of the top performing elementary charter schools in Hillsborough County. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education, with certification in Elementary Education from USF, and a Master's degree in Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Mrs. Guertin certifications include Florida Educator certificate in Specific Learning Disabilities, Elementary Education, Educational Leadership and ESOL Endorsement. She believes her greatest accomplishments are due to the team effort between her and the outstanding educators she has been fortunate to work with. Mrs. Guertin looks forward to guiding Lutz Preparatory's vision and mission for our students with the aspiration to be a school of national prominence.
Mrs. Hume graduated from John Carroll University where she received a BA Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and graduated from Buffalo State College with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She has over 15 years of teaching experience including pre-school, elementary school and middle school as well as special education. She moved to Florida in 2004 with her husband and two boys. They all enjoy the sunny weather, playing golf, swimming, boating and fishing. She is proud to call Lutz Pre-Prep home and looks forward to working with all of our Pre-Prep families.
Mrs. Smallwood has over 12 years of experience in the school system in Illinois, including administration, teaching, special populations, and Rti. Mrs. Smallwood holds a Master’s degree in Leadership in Human Services Administration from Bradley University, with a certification in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. She strongly believes in life-long learning and creating a foundation for all students to be successful. She moved to Florida in 2011 with her husband and daughter. Mrs. Smallwood enjoys the warmer Florida weather, watching her daughter’s sports, is a huge football fan, and looks forward to working with the Lutz Prep families.
Mr. Kuhar was born and raised in Southwest Florida, where the majority of his family still resides. He attended the University of Florida, where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. Mr. Kuhar then moved to the Florida Keys where he worked as a marine science instructor at Newfound Harbor Marine Institute, an outdoor marine camp. It is there where he fell in love with the field of education and working with young people. Following his two years in the Florida Keys, Mr. Kuhar went back to the University of Florida to attain a Master’s degree in Science Education. Upon his successful graduation, he moved to Maui, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, Mr. Kuhar helped to build and establish one of the most successful public schools in the state. Kihei Charter School was the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in the state of Hawaii and is still the only Hawaii public school to provide STEM education to every student. Mr. Kuhar worked for years to establish robust and rigorous field sciences, a wealth of community partners, service learning projects, community gardens, and a floating classroom. Mr. Kuhar is very excited to bring his diverse educational background to Lutz Prep and work with the wonderful students, families, and teachers.
